During their recent investor earnings calls, Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V has sold more than 160 million copies and that Red Dead Redemption 2 has almost sold 43 million copies.
Despite launching almost 9 years ago, GTAV still sells an insane amount of copies, with 5 million sold just in the last quarter alone. RDR2 also had a strong quarter, with around 4 million copies sold during the festive period.
Red Dead Redemption
Take-Two also commented on Red Dead Online, stating that the game had exceeded expectations during Quarter 3, largely due to content such as the Halloween Pass & the Call to Arms updates, however, they didn’t comment on the #SaveRedDeadOnline campaign or what’s in store in the future.
In total, the Red Dead Redemption series has sold over 65 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games of all time and over the past three years, RDR2 has been the 2nd best-selling title in the US, only behind GTAV.
There were mentions throughout the call about the potential to revisit previous games, and with the GTA Trilogy exceeding expectations, we can only hope the original RDR is given a remaster up to the high standards of RDR2.
Grand Theft Auto
Last week, Rockstar confirmed that they’re working on the next title in the GTA Series, yet GTAV shows no signs of slowing down, as it recently passed 160 million copies sold and is the best-selling game of the decade in the US.
In total, GTA games have now sold over 370 million copies worldwide, with the recently released GTA Trilogy also reaching 10 million copies sold. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also reassured investors & fans that the GTA Trilogy is being worked on, and insider TezFuns2 confirmed that the Trilogy is currently receiving updates on SteamDB.
With the Expanded & Enhanced version of GTAV launching for next-generation consoles on March 15th, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the GTA series surpasses 400 million total copies sold, as the series continues to break records & expectations.
