Rockstar Games has finally confirmed that GTA 6 is coming and active development is well underway.

The announcement came to the surprise of many, especially as fans are still eagerly awaiting more details on the Expanded & Enhanced version of GTAV, which Rockstar Games have revealed is coming on March 15th. Rockstar also took this opportunity to give the next title in the iconic GTA series a mention, writing that:

we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.”

This is the first time that Rockstar have discussed the sequel in an official capacity and although they’ve not provided any meaty details other than the game being in active development, fans are already speculation about everything from where the game will be set, with Vice City being a favourite, to who’ll be the games lead character.

The news is also a slap in the face of Red Dead Online fans, who’ve been asking for news on what’s next for the game throughout January, with #SaveRedDeadOnline trending on Twitter for almost 4 weeks now. Up to now, Rockstar still remain silent about the future of Red Dead Online.

Confirmation of GTA 6 coming has also overshadowed details of the next-gen version of GTAV, with Rockstar confirming that Expanded & Enhanced is coming with:

  • 4K up to 60FPS
  • HDR Options
  • Ray-tracing
  • Faster loading times
  • Haptic feedback
  • Hao’s workshop (car upgrades)
  • and much more…

Players on Xbox One and PS4 will also be able to transfer their progression for GTA V and GTA Online to the next generation consoles, in a one-time migration available at launch.

It remains to be seen when further details of GTA 6 will come, as in Rockstar fashion, they’ve told fans to stay tuned to their newswire, however, it’s a certainty that when more details are revealed, you’ll see them absolutely everywhere.
